Papua New Guinean reggae artist, Anslom has taken PNG reggae to a whole new level winning the Band of the year award at the 2023 International Singer-Songwriter’s Association (ISSA) Awards in Atlanta, USA.
Anslom posted on his Facebook page after receiving the prize. This is the biggest international award received by a PNG reggae artist.
Anslom and legendary producer, Emmanuel “Toxicmahn” Munganaua travelled to Atlanta on the back of a successful band tour in Vanuatu for the country’s independence celebrations.
Speaking for Atlanta, Anslom thanked all his fans around the world for the support and dedicated the win to his mother.
“I am still pinching myself. I woke up at 2am in the morning. It still hasn’t sunk in,” he said. “I told Manu, we made history! But it’s still hard for me to grasp the magnitude of it all.”
Raising the money to travel to Atlanta was difficult. But at the 11th hour, help came when it was needed.
“My thanks to Honley (Jokema) who supported a music brother. Thank you to Governor Allan Bird who is a reggae fan himself and whole host of supporters.”
